I always struggle with giving my characters enough depth. They feel flat sometimes. How do you make readers connect emotionally?

I start by giving each character a fear or secret. It makes them more human because everyone hides something inside.

I use real people as inspiration their speech, habits, and flaws. Once you do that, your characters start talking by themselves.
